According to The Hill, De Blasio said during a press conference Sunday that New York City will move its funding for the New York Police Department to youth and social services. The NYPD’s annual budget is $6 billion but De Blasio didn’t disclose how much money he plans to reallocate.

“The details will be worked out in the budget process in the weeks ahead,” de Blasio said. “But I want people to understand that we are committed to shifting resources to ensure that the focus is on our young people.”

De Blasio’s announcement comes after he lifted the 8 pm curfew for the city due to the large amounts of peaceful protests within the five boroughs.

“I also will affirm, while doing that, we will only do it in a way that we are certain continues to ensure that this city will be safe,”
