Topgolf Charlotte Releases Date of Reopening

Topgolf’s Charlotte facility will reopen its doors on Monday, with capacity limits and enhanced cleaning procedures in the face of Covid-19.

The pandemic forced the golf-entertainment venue in southwest Charlotte to close in mid-March, furloughing 400 employees.

Clayton Stanley, director of operations, says the establishment is in the process of onboarding staff and prepping the facility to open. Topgolf worked with local and city officials on its reopening plan, Stanley adds.

“We wanted the timing to be right. We took the time to make sure we could keep it safe for everyone,” he says.

That 65,000-square-foot facility is located at 8024 Savoy Corporate Drive.

Plans call for Topgolf to open at 50% capacity. It will operate two of its three floors — or 72 bays — to start. Employees will wear masks. Guests will be required to wear masks to enter the facility and in the common areas.

Hours will be 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. daily — to keep in check with Mecklenburg County’s regulation that cuts off alcohol service at 11 p.m.

“We won’t see the financials we saw pre-Covid. But we wanted to bring something back to the community our guests could do,” Stanley says. “I think people playing safe is most important.”

Topgolf implemented a number of steps for guest safety. That means clear dividers between the golf bays, and high-touch points, tables and furniture are sanitized as bays turn over as well as each golf club and every golf ball hit.

“The decision to open was specifically based on our ability to open safely,” Stanley says. “The one thing we have to our advantage is when the guest plays they are outside.”

Dallas-based Topgolf International Inc. has a second 80,000-square-foot facility under construction in the University area. It is expected to open by the end of the year.

It is being built on a 14.2-acre site off University City Boulevard, near Interstate 85.
