BET Hits Pause on Soul Train and Hip-Hop Awards Amid Programming Shakeup

BET is pressing pause on its Soul Train and Hip-Hop Awards as the network rethinks its strategy in a shifting media landscape.

In a Billboard interview, BET president Scott Mills confirmed the shows are being shelved—for now—but not scrapped. “They aren’t gone,” he said, hinting at potential revamps or streaming debuts.

The move follows a major ratings drop for the 2025 BET Awards, which aired on a Monday instead of its usual Sunday slot. BET plans to return to the traditional June Sunday time in 2026—and bring back the BET Experience festival.

Despite the pause, awards like the NAACP Image Awards and Stellar Awards will continue as scheduled.
