CHARLOTTE, NC — Domino’s is celebrating the nationwide launch of its newest menu item with a major giveaway that could put a free pizza in the hands of more than 105,000 customers.
The pizza chain officially introduced “The Domino,” a new personal-sized Detroit-style pizza designed for one person. The rectangular pizza is made with buttery-flavored pan dough, a Parmesan-crusted edge, two layers of cheese, a customer’s choice of sauce and as many as three toppings. It is finished with Domino’s signature garlic seasoning and cut into two large pieces resembling the company’s logo.
To promote the launch, Domino’s is offering up to $1 million worth of free pizzas through its “Is the Domino Worthy?” campaign. The company says that equals 105,375 free Dominos.
The unusual promotion encourages customers to compare the new pizza with some of fast food’s most recognizable menu items. Participants can submit proof that they purchased an eligible item such as a Big Mac, Whopper, Crunchwrap Supreme, Chick-fil-A Original Chicken Sandwich or Chipotle burrito for a chance to receive a code for a free Domino. No purchase is required under the promotion’s official rules.
Free pizza codes are being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last, so customers interested in participating may want to act quickly.
The Domino officially rolled out nationwide on August 31. Outside of the giveaway, customers can also purchase a two-topping version as part of Domino’s Mix & Match deal for $6.99, although pricing and participation can vary by location.
The new menu item represents Domino’s attempt to compete more directly for individual meals, giving customers a pizza option designed for one instead of the traditional shareable pie.
