Early voting is underway for the Charlotte city primary election, giving residents a head start before Primary Day on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

On the ballot are major races including the mayor’s office, four City Council at-large seats, and several district contests. The mayoral race and Districts 1, 3, 4, and 5 are Democratic primaries, while District 6 features a Republican matchup between Sary Chakra and Krista Bokhari. Current interim District 6 representative Edwin Peacock III is seeking an at-large Council seat.

In total, 10 Democrats are vying for four at-large spots on City Council.

Many voters casting ballots early said affordable housing and development are their top concerns. “You matter. Your voice matters,” said early voter Sherell Mobley. “These people may be the voice you need to represent and get things done for the community.”
