Author: Anders J. Hare (WCNC) reports- Uptown Charlotte is set for a bustling weekend as the Lovin’ Life Music Fest and Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s Grand National Tour converge from May 2–4. With the festival drawing up to 80,000 attendees to First Ward Park and the concert at Bank of America Stadium, expect significant crowds and traffic.
How to get there
Lovin’ Life
The festival will take place in First Ward Park, May 2-4, just off the Charlotte Area Transit System light rail, situated between Seventh and Ninth Street Stations. Attendees can utilize either station to enter the festival or return to their vehicle.
CATS said it would have ambassadors stationed at I-485, JW Clay and University City Blvd. Park and Ride Stations to assist riders and answer questions about festival transportation. Ambassadors will also be present at the Charlotte Transportation Center (CTC), 7th and 9th Street stations to direct customers to the festival.
Attendees traveling from outside of Uptown are encouraged to utilize a Park and Ride locations along the light rail, which offers free parking to all CATS customers.

Grand National Tour
Kendrick Lamar and SZA hit the stage at Bank of America Stadium on May 3.If you’re driving to the show, there are more than 30,000 parking spaces available within a 15-minute walk to Bank of America Stadium. Fans can also reserve parking spots ahead of the concert here.
If you’re not driving to the concert, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are available. Officials ask fans to pick up and drop off using their preferred rideshare app at the corner of Third and Church Streets, next to Romare Bearden Park.
CATS is also offering a discounted transit pass, which includes unlimited rides on the Blue Line, Gold Line and CATS bus services from May 2 at midnight to May 5 at 2 a.m. Find more information about ticket pricing here.
There will be road closures
A number of roads in Uptown will be closed due to the Lovin’ Life Music Festival, some of which began as early as April 28. Here’s a list of the closures the city of Charlotte has announced:
- Seventh Street between Brevard Street and the light rail tracks
- Seventh Street between Caldwell Street and Brevard Street
- Eighth Street between Caldwell Street and Brevard Street
- Eighth Street between Brevard Street and the light rail tracks
- Ninth Street between Caldwell Street and the light rail tracks
- Brevard Street between Seventh Street and Ninth Street
- Caldwell Street between Fifth Street and Ninth Street
On May 2, there will be a pre-show fan fest for Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s Grand National Tour, which will also result in the following road closures:
- Brooklyn Village Avenue between Church Street and Mint Street
- Graham Street between Mint Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard
- Mint Street between West Morehead Street and First Street
