Charlotte is preparing for a weekend filled with culture, history, and celebration as communities across the Queen City honor Juneteenth with festivals, live entertainment, educational programs, and family-friendly activities. From June 19-21, residents and visitors will have numerous opportunities to commemorate the holiday while supporting local Black-owned businesses, artists, and community organizations.
One of the region’s largest events is the Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas, a four-day celebration in Plaza Midwood featuring a Freedom March, live entertainment, cultural programming, a Gospel Fest, youth activities, food vendors, and community gatherings. Additional events include the University City Juneteenth Art Fest, which will showcase local artists, performers, and entrepreneurs, as well as special celebrations at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture.
Other Juneteenth events taking place throughout the Charlotte area include community celebrations in West Charlotte, educational programs, cultural exhibits, concerts, poetry performances, and family-focused activities designed to honor the legacy of freedom and resilience. Organizers expect thousands of attendees throughout the weekend as Charlotte continues to embrace one of the nation’s most important commemorative holidays. Whether attending a festival, supporting local businesses, enjoying live music, or participating in a community event, there will be plenty of ways to celebrate Juneteenth across the Charlotte region this year.
