The Charlotte Hornets took a major step toward strengthening their young core during the 2026 NBA Draft, making two first-round selections aimed at improving both the frontcourt and backcourt. Armed with picks No. 4 and No. 29, the franchise focused on adding high-upside talent that can develop alongside the team’s emerging foundation led by LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.
With the fourth overall selection, Charlotte drafted Duke standout Kon Knueppel. One of the most polished offensive players in the draft class, Knueppel arrives with a reputation as an elite shooter, smart playmaker, and efficient scorer. The former Blue Devil was widely regarded as one of the best perimeter threats available, giving the Hornets another dynamic offensive weapon capable of stretching defenses and creating opportunities for teammates. His ability to play multiple positions should provide Charlotte with valuable lineup flexibility moving forward.
Later in the first round, the Hornets selected French center Joan Beringer with the 29th overall pick. The athletic big man brings size, rim protection, and long-term upside to Charlotte’s frontcourt. Scouts have praised Beringer’s defensive instincts, mobility, and potential as a developing two-way player. While he may require additional development time, many analysts view him as one of the draft’s most intriguing international prospects with significant room for growth.
By adding Knueppel and Beringer, the Hornets addressed two key areas of need while continuing to invest in the future. Charlotte leaves the 2026 NBA Draft with a talented shooter who can contribute immediately and a young center who could become an important piece of the franchise’s long-term plans.
