Davidson College Expands Financial Aid, Offers Free Tuition for Families Earning Up to $175,000

Davidson College is making a major investment in college affordability by introducing a new financial aid program that will provide free tuition for incoming U.S. students from families earning $175,000 or less per year. Beginning with students enrolling in Fall 2027, the initiative is designed to make the nationally ranked liberal arts college more accessible to middle- and lower-income families while simplifying the financial aid process.

Under the new model, students from families with annual incomes of $85,000 or less will receive a full scholarshipcovering tuition, mandatory fees, housing, and meals. Families earning between $85,000 and $175,000 will qualify for tuition-free attendance, with some students also receiving additional need-based assistance. Students from households earning above $175,000 will continue to receive financial aid packages that meet their full demonstrated financial need without requiring student loans, continuing a long-standing Davidson policy.

College leaders say the updated financial aid structure is intended to remove financial barriers and provide greater transparency for prospective students as they compare college costs. Davidson President Doug Hicks said the goal is to ensure that a family’s income does not prevent qualified students from attending the college. The announcement places Davidson among a growing number of universities expanding financial aid to make higher education more affordable for a broader range of families.
