Lil Durk Murder-for-Hire Trial Begins as Prosecutors Detail Alleged Flight Plans and Payments

Rapper Lil Durk’s federal murder-for-hire trial is underway, with prosecutors presenting new details surrounding allegations that the Chicago artist financed an attempted hit against fellow rapper Quando Rondo and later attempted to leave the United States.

Durk, whose legal name is Durk Devontay Banks, is accused of orchestrating a 2022 attack targeting Quando Rondo in Los Angeles. Rondo survived the shooting, but his cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson was killed. Durk has pleaded not guilty and faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted.

During the opening stages of the trial, prosecutors reportedly argued that Durk attempted to leave the country around the time federal authorities were closing in on him in October 2024. Previous court records showed that Durk booked flights connected to Switzerland and Dubai, along with a private flight to Italy, before authorities arrested him in South Florida.

Durk’s defense disputes the prosecution’s interpretation of his travel plans. According to courtroom reporting cited by HotNewHipHop, his attorneys maintain that he was in Miami to work with producer and music executive DJ Khaled, rather than attempting to escape law enforcement.

Financial records are also becoming an important part of the government’s case. Reports from the trial allege that airline tickets for men accused of participating in the shooting appeared on Durk’s American Express credit card statement. Prosecutors have previously alleged that travel and rental-car expenses connected to the alleged operation were funded through resources tied to Durk and his Only the Family organization.

Several individuals connected to OTF are also expected to cooperate with prosecutors. HotNewHipHop reports that OTF Jam, OTF Vonni and Flacka were identified as cooperating witnesses during the first day of proceedings. Durk’s defense is expected to challenge the government’s version of events and the credibility of testimony presented against him.

The case stems from prosecutors’ allegation that the 2022 shooting was retaliation following the 2020 death of Durk’s friend and fellow rapper King Von, who was killed during a confrontation involving associates of Quando Rondo in Atlanta. Durk has denied responsibility for the alleged murder-for-hire plot.

The trial is expected to continue for approximately two to four weeks, depending on witness testimony and other proceedings. With both sides presenting sharply different explanations of the evidence, the jury will ultimately decide whether prosecutors have proven the allegations against Durk beyond a reasonable doubt.

Charlotte Hornets Sign Brandon Miller to Massive $209 Million Contract Extension

The Charlotte Hornets are making a major investment in their future after reaching a five-year, $209 million contract extension with rising NBA star Brandon Miller. The agreement, announced October 19, represents one of the franchise’s biggest commitments to a young player and reinforces Miller’s position as a central piece of Charlotte’s rebuilding efforts. Miller, who was selected second overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, has developed into one of the Hornets’ most important offensive players. The 23-year-old averaged 20.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists during the 2025–26 season. His ability to score from beyond the three-point line, create offensive opportunities and contribute in multiple areas has made him a valuable part of Charlotte’s roster. The extension comes during a period of significant change for the Hornets, including the departure of former franchise guard LaMelo Ball, who was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. With Ball no longer leading the offense, Miller is expected to take on an even larger responsibility as Charlotte works to establish a new team identity. The Hornets have struggled to find consistent postseason success in recent years, making the development of young talent a major priority for the organization. By securing Miller through a long-term agreement, Charlotte is signaling confidence in his ability to develop into one of the NBA’s premier players. The Hornets will begin their 2026–27 regular season Wednesday, October 21, against the Brooklyn Nets. For Charlotte basketball fans, the extension represents a significant step toward building a competitive future around one of the team’s brightest young stars.
