Thousands of residents gathered in Charlotte’s University City district to celebrate Juneteenth during the annual University City Juneteenth Art Fest, a vibrant event that brought together art, music, culture, and community. Held at The Boardwalk at University City, the festival featured live performances, local artists, interactive exhibits, family activities, and dozens of Black-owned businesses and vendors honoring the significance of Juneteenth.

The free community event showcased more than 70 local vendors, live DJs, dance performances, spoken word artists, cultural exhibits, fashion showcases, and hands-on activities designed to celebrate African American history and creativity. Attendees enjoyed interactive experiences including Juneteenth-themed art projects, live podcast broadcasts, free haircuts, giveaways, and educational displays highlighting the holiday’s historical importance. Organizers said the festival was created to honor freedom while supporting local artists, entrepreneurs, and community organizations.

Presented by University City Partners, the Juneteenth Art Fest has quickly become one of Charlotte’s premier Juneteenth celebrations. Event organizers emphasized the importance of using art and culture to educate future generations while fostering community engagement and economic empowerment. Live music, visual art, cultural performances, and family-friendly programming helped create an atmosphere that celebrated both the history of Juneteenth and the ongoing contributions of Black creators and business owners throughout the Charlotte region.

As attendance continues to grow each year, the University City Juneteenth Art Fest remains a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving history, supporting local communities, and celebrating freedom. Organizers called the event a tremendous success and expressed their commitment to continuing the tradition for years to come as Charlotte’s Juneteenth celebrations continue to expand and evolve.
