CHARLOTTE, NC — Six Flags Entertainment Corporation is preparing to leave Charlotte, announcing plans to relocate its corporate headquarters to Arlington, Texas, in 2027.
The move comes only about two years after Charlotte became the headquarters of the combined company following the 2024 merger between Six Flags and Cedar Fair. Before that merger, the former Six Flags organization had maintained its headquarters in the Arlington area.
Under the new plan, Six Flags will consolidate its primary corporate leadership and shared business operations at its existing offices inside Choctaw Stadium in Arlington. The company expects the transition to be completed by March 2027.
Six Flags President and CEO John Reilly said Arlington’s central location, transportation access and business environment make the city a strong base for the company’s future. The location also puts corporate leadership closer to several of the company’s Texas properties. Six Flags currently operates a network of 34 amusement and water parks and nine resorts across North America.
Arlington also has historic significance for the company. The city is home to Six Flags Over Texas, which opened in 1961 as the original Six Flags theme park. The company’s headquarters will now be located next to one of the properties where the Six Flags brand began more than six decades ago.
For Charlotte-based employees, the relocation will mean another major corporate transition. Six Flags says many employees will be offered opportunities to relocate to Arlington, while the company works with affected team members during the move.
Despite moving its corporate headquarters out of Charlotte, Six Flags says it remains committed to Carowinds and Carolina Harbor. The company is continuing to invest in the Charlotte-area amusement park, including the planned Rip Roarin’ Falls attraction scheduled to debut in 2027.
Six Flags will also continue operating an office in Sandusky, Ohio, maintaining another corporate presence outside Texas.
The relocation represents a quick reversal for Charlotte, which gained the headquarters after the Six Flags-Cedar Fair merger in 2024. By early 2027, the amusement park giant will once again call Texas its corporate home while continuing to operate and invest in Carowinds in the Carolinas.
