CHARLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte area is heading into another stretch of hot and humid August weather, with temperatures climbing through the 90s and opportunities for afternoon thunderstorms remaining in the forecast.
On Friday, August 14, temperatures are expected to reach around 95 degrees. While much of the day will feature a mix of sunshine and clouds, isolated thunderstorms could develop during the afternoon.
The heat will continue into the weekend. Saturday is expected to reach around 96 degrees, with high humidity making extended periods outdoors uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. An afternoon thunderstorm is also possible.
Conditions remain similar on Sunday, with another high near 95 degrees and the possibility of scattered afternoon storms.
The biggest heat could arrive at the beginning of the workweek. Monday’s forecast calls for temperatures around 100 degrees, potentially challenging a longstanding record. The combination of extreme heat, humidity and possible thunderstorms could make Monday one of the most impactful weather days of the upcoming stretch.
Some storms that develop could also become strong enough to produce localized damaging wind gusts, making it important for residents to keep an eye on changing conditions.
Temperatures are expected to ease slightly later in the week, but Charlotte will remain warm and humid, with highs generally staying in the 90s.
Anyone spending significant time outdoors should plan accordingly by staying hydrated, taking breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas and limiting strenuous activities during the hottest portion of the afternoon.
Drivers and residents should also remain alert when thunderstorms develop, as summertime storms can quickly produce heavy rain, gusty winds and reduced visibility.
